Title of the project: Advanced imaging for pre-cancer and cancer recurrence risk assessment
Project contract No: 1.1.1.9/LZP/2/25/343
Research manager (Postdoctoral fellow): Dr. Marta Skrastiņa
Project implementation times: 01.01.2026 - 31.12.2028
Total project funding: 183 297.60 EUR

Aim of the project: This project aims to develop and clinically validate advanced, non-invasive autofluorescence-based multispectral imaging methods for early detection of skin cancer and recurrence risk in post-operative skin cancer scars, as well as precancerous oral lesions in order to establish robust screening protocols.

Project results: Expected results include a validated imaging workflow capable of evaluating healthy and pathological tissue, three scientific articles, and a diagnostic protocol for clinical adoption. Impact will manifest as an enhanced post-operative evaluation for skin cancer and cancer recurrence, as well as evaluation of oral lesions, and wider access to screening tools, ultimately improving patient outcomes and experience
