Project Abstract: The MXAuR project aims to develop a platform based on the synergetic application of MXenes and gold nanorods (AuNRs) for antibacterial action through photothermal therapy, reaching TRL 4, addressing the urgent global challenge of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. By combining the tunable optical properties and strong NIR absorption of AuNRs with the high biocompatibility, stability, and antimicrobial activity of MXenes, the project seeks to create a biocompatible, non-antibiotic solution capable of eradicating antibiotic-resistant strains. The nanocomposites will be integrated into electrospun nanofiber membranes composed of polymers. The final goal is to validate the platform at TRL 4. This interdisciplinary project spans materials science, nanotechnology, biology, and biomedical engineering, and involves international collaboration. MXAuR contributes to Latvia’s RIS3 priorities and has potential applications in healthcare and environmental safety. The outcomes will advance both scientific knowledge and Latvia’s innovation capacity through technology development, dissemination, and training
