Researchers from the University of Latvia participated in an intensive week of scientific meetings and conference activities in Alghero, Sardinia, focused on advanced materials and biomedical applications of MXenes.
The week began with the kick-off meeting of the new MSCA Staff Exchanges MX-WOUND project, coordinated by the University of Latvia. Representatives of all nine project partners discussed the research programme, planned secondments and future activities aimed at developing innovative MXene-based approaches for wound treatment.
Between 15-17 September, the UL team participated in CONFAMI 2026, an international conference bringing together experts in advanced materials and innovation. The University of Latvia was represented by Maksym Pogorielov, Viktoriia Korniienko, Inga Šīrante, Volodymyr Deineka and Kateryna Diedkova. Maksym Pogorielov delivered an invited lecture on recent progress in the biomedical investigation of MXenes, while Viktoriia Korniienko presented research on antibacterial applications of MXenes.
The week concluded with meetings of the ongoing MSCA-SE MX-MAP project, which is approaching its final stage, and the new MSCA-SE OMNIA project, focused on omics-based investigation of MXenes and other 2D materials for cancer-related biomedical applications.
The meetings strengthened existing international collaborations and created new opportunities for joint research and innovation in the biomedical application of advanced two-dimensional materials.
